BHA Youth Group
Beacon Hebrew Alliance (BHA) has launched a youth group chapter of USY and Kadima. A kickoff meeting was held Sunday, January 10, 2010. Sara Lowenstein is organizing the two groups and acting as the youth advisor. At the kickoff meeting, each member was asked to fill out a questionnaire with various activities listed, in order to establish what the group was most interested in doing together. These included: snow tubing, horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, drama, paintball, a soap box derby, museum visits, educational, and community activities, plus much, much more. In a few weeks, USY'ers will be attending their first "Sprinter" Convention in Albany.  Membership is not limited to Beacon Hebrew Alliance members.  For more information on the chapter or if interested in joining, please contact Beacon Hebrew Alliance at 845-831-2012 or email Sara Lowenstein at

Identify people, places and things in large collections on the Web, even if they haven't been tagged or indexed.

Finding spare parts or identifying a landmark could soon be as easy as uploading and analyzing a digital photo, thanks to a new European Union project led by Israeli researchers.

Called SAPIR (Search in Audio visual content using Peer-to-peer Information Retrieval), the new Web-based technology can analyze and identify the pixels in large-scale collections of audio-visual content, even if they haven't been tagged or indexed with descriptive information.

The analytics engine, which can be used to sort through video, pictures, music and multimedia, was produced by a consortium of researchers from the EU, led by Yossi Mass, a scientist at IBM Research in Haifa. It is driven by content, rather than relying on keywords or tags.
