JFSWorkRelatedJewish Family Services Organizes First Meeting

On December 4, 2009 Jewish Family Services of Dutchess County will host its first "Employment Related Information and Networking Group"
meeting.  At the event, local experts in job-search resources, including
Fred Fister, Executive Director of Dutchess Works, will provide
information on Dutchess County area help that is available to
job-seekers. The group will also establish plans for follow-up
activities to support participants in their efforts to seek jobs and
cope with unemployment.  The meeting will take place at the Dubliner
Irish Pub, 756 Main St., Poughkeepsie, at 1:00 p.m., in the Cottage
Room.  Attendance at the meeting is completely free of charge, and is
open to the public.  For more information, please contact Dr. Linda
Tafapolsky at jfs@jewishdutchess.org, or at 845-471-9817.  RSVP is
requested, but not required.

On December 10th, the Jewish Federation will hold its Annual Meeting. At the meeting there will be an election of new Board members and officers as well as presentation of two awards, the Presidents' Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award. When Stephen Hawking recently visited Israel, he shared his wisdom with scientists, students, and even the Prime Minister. But the world's most renowned victim of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease, also learned something, due to the Israeli Association for ALS's advanced work in both embryonic and adult stem cell research, as well as its proven track record with neurological degenerative diseases. The Israeli research community is well on its way to finding a treatment for this fatal disease, which affects 30,000 Americans.
Hanukkah Menorah Lighting around Dutchess County
This year we will hold Hanukkah candle lighting in three of our Jewish population centers in the county to make it easier for people to participate:

Tuesday. December 15th, 5:30 p.m. on the grounds of Beacon Hebrew Alliance in Southern Dutchess

Wednesday, December 16th, 5:30 p.m. outside Scheer Cleaners in Rhinebeck in Northern Dutchess

Thursday, December 17th, 5:30 p.m. at the JCCDC in Poughkeepsie. Cantor Rena Shapiro and the Shalom Singers will lead Chanukah songs at the JCC menorah lighting.

And in every on of the locations, games and fun and singing...JOIN US

Dear Friends,

For the second year, Jewish Family Services of Dutchess County is
supporting a wonderful outreach initiative originated by Jane LaLone, an
active member of Vassar Temple.  Our goal is to seek modest donations with the aim of providing small Chanukah gifts/gift cards, Chanukah candles, latke mix,  and chocolate "gelt" to local Jewish families in need. Please make donations payable to "Jewish Family Services of Dutchess" and mail to JFS, 110 S. Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY  12603 and put "Chanukah Drive" on the memo line.  Alternatively, you can give your contribution to Jane Lalone if you see her -- and she will forward it to JFS.

Of equal importance, please let JFS know if there are members of your
congregation -- or unaffiliated friends/acquaintances/online friends --
who might need such Chanukah "care packages."  This information will, of course, be treated confidentially and will be seen only be me (Linda Tafapolsky).

Feel free to forward this email to friends and acquaintances, or share
the information in your congregational e-bulletins.
