BLOGGING JEWISH IN DUTCHESS

While growing up in Buenos Aires, I attended Public school in the morning, and the “Sholem Aleichem” Jewish Day School in the afternoon. At the Jewish school we learned, of course, Modern Hebrew and Yiddish, and as part of that learning we learned songs – one of the Yiddish songs was called “Az Der Rebbe Tantzt” (“When the Rebbe dances”). It was a song with a good beat and even funny. I didn't learn until years later that it was in fact a song created by Litvak (“Misnagdim”) Jews to make fun of Hassidism.
